MY TOP 5 LIST OF ANTI- DEPRESSANTS

intropills

Now before you all start thinking that I am talking about medications here, think again. We all get depressed from time to time. And sometimes we get so low it takes a ridiculous amount of time for us to get up again. I have over the years developed a few strategies for dealing with the low points in my life…medication free! Dealing with the pressures of being a single mother can be overwhelming at times and these techniques I use can rescue from that couch you have been stuck on!

1walking

Walking is one of the best things you can do for yourself. It does not matter if you are in a mall, or downtown. Just walk! It will allow you to release all of the emotions you have, without the input of other people. I like this one, because there are just some moments that you do not necessarily want to hear advice from people! This allows you to be alone with your thoughts and release some endorphins. You might just find at then end of your walk that you have more energy than you have had in a long time. I started walking right after my mastectomy. It helped me a lot. It allowed me to process emotions that I could not deal with in front of my kids.

2baking

Find a hobby PLEASE!!! Mine is baking. I do not know why but when I bake I immediately begin to feel better. I think I enjoy the creative part of it. The other thing I like about baking is that I can do it alone. It is yet another way of deflecting my thought away from my troubles. And when I am able to step away from my problems I often gain more clarity in how to solve them. There are plenty of other hobbies out there… sewing, knitting and painting.

3reading

One of my all time favorite things to do is READ!! I usually make a trip to Barnes and Noble every two weeks to pick up more material. We all know that knowledge is power. Reading also allows our minds to drift to places we would not go on our own. Instead of dwelling on what is bringing you down READ about what might lift you up! There is always a way out of any given situation and a solution to any problem.

4friends

Let us not forget our friends LADIES!!! Getting together with our friends and talking is a great way of relaxing. When the weight of the world is sitting squarely on your shoulders, having friends around can make it tolerable.Who knows THEY might have some solutions you have never even considered!

5meditation

This by no means should be last on the list. But I wanted to save the best for last. FAITH !! Regardless of your religious beliefs it is important to rely on them in times of great stress. I quite often have used mediation as a way of settling my mind and emotions. It calms by blood pressure and my racing mind. I find five to ten minutes at a time is plenty.

I hope you find something in my top 5 list that you might like to try. If you use all of them you will be amazed at how balanced your life will become! I know mine has!!
