Testing the water is always a good idea before you dive in. But standing on the edge too long before taking the plunge ,is what will prevent you from enjoying a great experience.The best way to handle this is to keep going in a little at a time until it feels right. Once you have gotten use to the way it feels then you can start to take off on your own. Take that first step towards the waters edge and dip our toes in!
